Do not plant these pear trees.
They decorate yards. But they are stinky. They take over yards and fields. They are hard to kill.
Callery [cal-er-ee] pear trees were brought to America from China. Their blooms are lovely. But they are trouble!
Pray: Thank God that He teaches us how to be careful with His creation.
Read More: The trees were brought to the United States 100 years ago. They were to help save native pear trees. Those had been hurt by a plant disease. Grafting parts of those trees into the roots of Callery pears made them safe from the disease. Callery pear trees were planted all over the United States. Now some states ban them. Adam and Eve’s sin hurt everything. Genesis 3:18 tells us that the ground will bring forth thorns and thistles.
