People want to know more about a bird.  It lived long ago.  People cannot find many bones of the bird.  They did find egg shells.

People matched the broken pieces.  These birds were big!

Pray: Thank God we can find out more about extinct birds. It is good to learn about creatures from the past.

Read More: The elephant bird lived on the island of Madagascar. It died out about a thousand years ago. Researchers found broken eggshells on Madagascar’s beaches. They fit the pieces together. The shells are strong. They look like pottery. Scientists believe elephant birds used to fly. The birds likely stopped flying when they landed on the island. There were not many predators. People think the birds grew bigger over time. They laid eggs that are up to a foot and a half long!

“I know all the birds of the hills, and all that moves in the field is mine.” (Psalm 50:11)
