Pass the mustard.
Fields once had purple, pink, and blue flowers. Yellow flowers took over! Wild black mustard hogged space.
People pick the mustard. They use it for food. They use it to color clothes.
Pray: Thank God He has a plan for everything He has made. Thank Him for the clever ways people use plants.
People brought wild black mustard from Europe and Asia to America in the 1700s. Heavy rains made it grow too well in California this year! Mustard roots limit native plant growth. Summer Sun caused mustard to die. Stalks can reach eight feet tall. They are dry “fire ladders.” Wildfire flames climb them easily. But people can harvest mustard. It makes paper or dyes clothes. Chefs use the greens for pesto.
Jesus said God’s kingdom is like a small mustard seed. “When it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants.” (Matthew 13:32)
