People found bird bones. The bones have tiny holes. They are flutes.

The flutes make high notes. They sound like birds. Did people make the flutes for music or to hunt birds? Maybe both!

Pray: Thank God for the gift of music. He made birds that sing. He gave people the idea to make flutes.

Hula Valley, Israel, is a popular bird-watching spot. People found seven teeny wing bones at a dig site there. The bones have finger and mouth holes. The flutes are fragile. A research team made copies of them. The team published a report in June. The instruments make high-pitched trills that sound like birds of prey! The Eurasian sparrowhawk and the common kestral make similar cries.

God says He will bring joy to the Israelites, “as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord.” (Isaiah 30:29)
