What stories do the old things tell?
Many people have things in their homes that are from the past.
Was that rug in a hotel? Who walked on it?
Were those bricks from the bank? Was it ever robbed?
Did that door come from a barn? Who milked cows there?
“Salvage” stores in the United States sell things like these. People say that they tell a story.
READ MORE: People like to think about the history of an item in their home. Did it come from an opera house? Was it hidden in Grandma’s attic? Did someone famous own it? We like stories because the Bible tells us God’s story of love and salvation in Jesus. Our lives tell a story too. Will yours be like Timothy’s? Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:5, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice.”
Lesson #7: Stories. Children love to hear—and to write—stories about themselves. Salvage store owners say the items they sell “tell stories.” Have the children write about their bedrooms. What do they look like? What toys are there? What books? What do they like about their bedrooms? What do they do there? What “stories” do their bedrooms tell? “Let your children tell their children, and their children to another generation.” (Joel 1:3)
