See spots fly.
Monarch (MAH-nark) butterflies have small white spots. Those with more white spots seem able to fly longer.
Do spots hide them well? Do spots help them fly on the wind? People want to find out!
Pray: Thank God for the ways He designs animals. He makes each creature able to do what He made it for.

Scientists studied 400 pairs of monarch butterfly wings. Some monarchs migrate from the United States and Canada. They fly 2,000 miles to spend winter in Mexico. Those that have the most white spots thrive. The bigger the spots are, the better. Dark wing sections grow warmer. Light wing sections stay cool. Pockets of air might form around the spots. That may help wings have less drag so they fly better. The spots may also help monarchs hide from predators.
