There are cities below ground. They have rooms to cook and store food. There are places to keep animals. There are school rooms. There is even a chapel.

People lived there long ago.

Pray: Thank God for the joy of learning history. God gave people smart ideas for where to live and stay safe.

A Turkish man lost chickens while fixing his house in 1963. The birds found passages below ground. People dug. They discovered a cave city called Derinkuyu. It has 18 levels of tunnels. It stretches hundreds of miles. The city may date back to the 700s B.C. It was a safe place in war time. Christians also lived there when leaders did not support their faith. People found a bigger underground city in 2020 called Matiate. It dates from A.D. 100-200.

We look forward to an eternal city “whose designer and builder is God.” (Hebrews 11:10)
